The vacation ownership or timeshare is the trading and exchange of the rights
to use of the resort accommodation i.e. hotels, condominiums for a certain 
period of time. People can purchase the rights to use the accommodation in 
advance for the period of 20, 30 or 40 years and retain rights to use the accommodation 
for 7 days a year.

Timeshare business had appeared in Thailand serveral years ago but later vanished 
due to the problem of credibility. Thai consumers had confused timeshare 
business with the Blisshers, the devastative pyramid-chain share operators,
the creditability of the timeshare business operators also suffered.

When the timeshare business had re-emerged in Thailand, the business 
operators have been looking forward to restore the creditability of the timeshare business.
As a result, the fast expansion of timeshare business in Thailand during the last 3 years
are registered. There are more than 30 local real-estate operators incorporated into 
the timeshare business. In order to protect the consumers from the unscrupulous 
opertors and regulate themselves, the timeshare business operators have jointly 
established an association.

The Thai Vacation Ownership Association (TVOA) was established by 14 timeshare 
business operators in 1997 with the support from RCI and I.I., the two largest vacation 
time rights exchange business operators in the world.
Both RCI and I.I. are founding members since 1997. The present President of TVOA is
Mr. Christopher Huie, Managing Director of Tai-Pan Hotel

TVOA was established with an aim to protect the consumers and act as the catalyst in 
the development of local timeshare business to meetthe international standard. 
Another agenda of the association are the promotion of public understanding 
and initiate the generation of the law and regulation on this matter to protect
the consumers and genuine timeshare business operators.

The establishment of the association of the timeshare business operators is regarded
as the crucial step in the development of timeshare business as envisaged from the 
development of this business in the other countries. When timeshare business emerged 
in any countries, there were both good and bad business operators and often the image 
of the business was tamished in the eyes of the public. Therefore the good business 
are naturally join together to form the organization or association to regulate themselves
and push the legislators to enact law and regulations on this business. 
All these efforts will lead to the establishment of business ethic to be the foundation for
the making of law. Finally the creditability of the business will be raised as the consumers
are assured by the high standard of the profession and the protection from the law.
